In the individual competition, every athlete competes on his own, contrary to the team competition. The winner of an individual competition is determined by one skijump and 10 km of cross country skiing. After the skijump, the points an athlete has achieved are transferred into a time difference. A 15 point-lead on the hill equals 1 minute of head start in the cross country part. To put it easier: 1 point on the hill equals 4 seconds in the cross country track. This simplified competition modus has replaced the classical Gundersen and Sprint competitions during the season 2008/2009.
