Liberec was already a center of cross-country skiing and ski jumping in the middle 1920’s and there were ski jumps in the parts of the town Plané, Harcov and Pilinkov. At the 1012 m high mountain Ještéd the first jumps were built in the years 1966 to 1968 and older jumps (K90 and K70) already had a common landing hill, as it still is today. Because of the juniors European championships 1976 the profile of both jumps was changed completely and a modern inrun tower was constructed. In the 1980’s another K50 was added which was covered with mattings for a while. At this time many international competitions took place there, like the famous Bohemia Tournament of ski jumpers, but also competitions of Nordic combined were held in front of a great number of spectators. In 1992 the jumping facility was reconstructed and later a lift up to the inrun tower was established. A disadvantage is that the jumps cannot be used for practicing at the same time, because they all lead into the same landing area. But nevertheless this modern ski jumping facility is one of the most important ski jumping centers of the Czech Republic. Liberec is regularly part of the yearly FIS World Cup schedule. In 2009 the Nordic Ski World Championships will be hosted there and for this occasion the jumps were again modernized in 2007/2008. Thereby the hill profiles of K120 and K90 were not changed, but mainly infrastructure was improved with new facilities and spectator stands.
