Final round of the season
Slowly but surely the final phase of the season is about the begin, but nordic combined competition are still exciting. The circuit will now travel to Liberec (CZE), and there we will get one step closer to the decision who will be the king of the 2011/12 season. If Mikko Kokslien will not be able to get closer to Akito Watabe and Jason Lamy Chappuis he will not be fighting for the overall title anymore. Also Japanese Watabe shall make sure that Lamy Chappuis can't further extend his lead if he wants to still have a chance for the overall victory.

Liberec, close to the Polish and German border, has a long history in nordic sports. Already in the 1920s there were some ski jumping hills in different parts of the city. The first hills on Jested Mountain were built in 1966 and modernized in 1992. A judges' tower and flood light was built for the World Championships in 2009.
The athletes will have to score points in Liberec in a Penalty Race on Saturday and a Gundersen-competition on Sunday. The jumping will be held on the large hill Jested "A" with a hill-size of 134 m. The cross country races take place in Vesec, on the tracks that were built for the World Championships. And because of the different formats there will be some variety. The Penalty Race will be held on a 5x2km course, while the Gundersen-race takes place on a 4x2.5km course.
Traditionally competitions in nordic combined are very popular in Liberec and after the third place of local hero Tomas Slavik last weekend event more spectators might attend the events at the hill and track. Slavik is especially looking forward to the competitions in front of his home crowd: "The podium result last weekend was my first and the 23rd for the Czech Republic. I hope that the interest of the spectators in Liberec will be high."
And also Austrian Willi Denifl, fourth and sixth last weekend, has some goals left. "The hills of the next World Cup competitions suit me and my shape in cross country is getting better and better. I really enjoy it and with a little bit of patience I might be able to achieve a podium result." With so many decisions to come, the upcoming weekend will definitely be exciting.
